Lifestyle of a skater

BY: DAPHNE-RAE LEE

Skate Park, a skater's second home. These teenagers spend practically everyday at the park hanging out, drinking and skating.

These skaters may not seem to have a bright future as the stereotypical image they project is rather negative: School drop-outs who have nothing better to do with their lives. However, some of them are in fact sponsored by skate companies such as Brainless and Back2Back.

In fact, almost every skater has a goal in life, and that is better than hardworking students who have no idea what they want to do after they graduate.

These skaters are all aiming to be professional skaters, hoping that they will be in worldwide competitions someday and as famous as Steve Caballero or Jereme Rogers. Those who are sponsored are already halfway there.

With their fearlessness, powerful kick flips, heel flips, grinds, 360 flips and impossibles, these skaters are actually going somewhere in their lives despite what outsiders might think.

Practising on their skateboarding tricks is actually like mugging for papers for us students or working 9-5 for the adults.

These skaters, however, are actually happy and proud of doing what they are doing. We can't really say that is true for everyone, especially us - the students, and some adults who are stuck in a rut and too scared to leave their stable jobs.

They are following their dreams and doing what they love, and that explains their whole laid-back and happy-go-lucky attitudes.
